This Friday, Fontana Gartenbau GmbH is commissioning a 0.75-hectare greenhouse in Manschnow (East Brandenburg). Around 11,500 cucumber plants will be grown in the energy-efficient greenhouse in the future, 1.3 million euros were invested in the construction, according to the Berlin-Brandenburg Horticultural Association. The cucumbers will be sold in two of the company's own flower stores, in the sales greenhouse, and via regional traders and Berlin weekly markets. The largest part is marketed by the company Werder Frucht.
Regional food from Brandenburg continues to be in demand despite inflation and the economic crisis, said Klaus Henschel, president of the horticultural association. "With the backing of politicians, further innovative steps must be taken with food retailers to make horticultural products from Brandenburg even more visible to consumers," Henschel said.
