Supermarkets across north London hit by vegetable shortages

North London supermarkets are being particularly hard hit by a nationwide shortages of fresh vegetables.

Over the past weekend, there were hardly any items in stock in the vegetable area of leading supermarkerts with a notable shortage of tomatoes and bell peppers.

Several stores had empty shelves with signs indicating that the items were "temporarily out of stock." While tomatoes were in stock at several smaller convenience stores, but prices were raised this week to account for the surge in demand.

Negative weather events leading to lower productions in Spain as well as increased transport costs and Brexit with more red-tape are to blame for the shortages experts in the UK say. They predict it is likely to last a few more weeks.

The tomato shortage is partly due to Morocco's ban on exports of this product.
