VBT figures

Sharp rise in vine tomatoes in week 4

Tomato volumes from local greenhouses are lower than normal. The autumn crop is over, and many new crops have yet to really come into production.

For the average prices on the VBT clock, this does not mean that prices are much higher than normal. In week 4, the vine tomato price recovered from a dip, and the price for loose tomatoes continued to rise slightly.

A kilo of vine tomatoes averaged 1.876 euros in week 4. More than 40 euro cents higher than in week 3. At the start of week 5, prices of well over 2.5 euros per kilo were even recorded at BelOrta auction.

The average price for loose tomatoes is slightly lower, at 1.785, in Week 4. However, that too is an average price higher than in week 3.

Most lettuce prices are also rising. Only the price for multicoloured lettuce lags behind. There is no major movement in the price for basil and parsley.
