Mega merger in Dutch aubergine industry

Aubergine growers De Jong and Gebr. Van Duijn have decided to continue together from January 1, 2023, by merging their companies. They will do so under the name: Van Duijn De Jong Aubergines.

Both companies have been around for more than 60 years. They have Westland roots but have been located in North Brabant (Dinteloord and Steenbergen) and Zeeland (Oosterland and Westdorpe) for many years. The two companies have been members of growers' association Purple Pride and cooperative Growers United since the beginning. The merger will create an aubergine farm with an area of almost 40 hectares.

The new company's motto is 'Progressive in sustainable entrepreneurship.' In doing so, the merged party works together with various parties in the chain to create added value for each other.

Third generation
The merger will lead to an increase in scale, risk spreading, strength, and room for further professionalization and specialization. It will also initiate the inflow and outflow of management and shareholders. There will be more room for employees to develop and grow.

The directors will be Peter de Jong, Pleun, Jan, and Rob van Duijn. The third generation - Tom de Jong, Luuk van Duijn and Hidde van Duijn - plays an important role in the management team and will join the board in the future. In this way, the merger also safeguards the continuity of the companies.

The merger is supervised by Koert van der Bij, who will remain involved in the integration of both companies as a consultant.
