US (AZ): Fire destroys aquaponics greenhouse, about 200 fish died

Josh Wilson of Scenic, Arizona, considers himself blessed after a fire broke out in his RV, destroying the RV and greenhouse but not his residential house Friday afternoon.

A fire killed about 200 fish on Friday in Scenic, Ariz, Jan. 20, 2023
“It’s a blessing,” Wilson said in a phone interview with St. George News. “We feel quite fortunate. It’s all that matters that we still got our house.” “A couple of hundred fish died,” Wilson said. “The poor fish were the real victims.”

Wilson explained he had a fish pond of 4,000-5,000 gallons of water with carp, largemouth bass, and other types of bass. Littlefield/Beaver Dam Fire Department Chief Jeff Hunt reported the fire started in the RV and spread to the greenhouse.

The greenhouse was an aquaponics greenhouse that was about to start up as a business. “Now we have to figure out how to rebuild,” Wilson said. “I am not one to sit around for too long. We will get started on it.”
