'Technical failure' or water as a result

More Dutch geothermal drilling ended by 2022

The development of geothermal heat in the Netherlands is in full swing. More and more projects are being realized, despite sometimes financial or subsidy difficulties. Glasshouse horticulture, in particular, is showing its commitment and sticking its neck out. However, not all drilling is successful.

On the Dutch Oil and Gas Portal, an overview has been published of (geothermal) drilling projects that will end in 2022. In many cases, drilling results in 'water.' For two wells, 'technical failure' was reported.

In 2021, the number of terminated geothermal wells with two wells was much lower than in 2022 (8) and 2020 (7).

The overviews for 2021 and 2020 can be viewed here.

Administrative data on boreholes and wells are always publicly available. Borehole measurements and reports are available after the legal 5-year period for confidentiality has expired.
