Snijpunt in the Netherlands:

Exploring new products: cucumber and zucchini halved and cleaned of seeds

Having introduced vegetable sticks earlier this year, Snijpunt in the Netherlands is now exploring the following new products: cucumber and zucchini halved and cleaned of seeds.

According to Mark van der Salm, Managing Director of Snijpunt, the cleaned halved cucumber can be cut into wedges quickly and easily. "It is perfect for use in salads, for example. Removing the seeds extends the shelf life of the product and, therefore, that of your finished product. The halved and cleaned courgette can be used as an ingredient for stuffed courgettes, for example, an increasingly popular dish."

He says halving and cleaning the cucumber and courgette is normally done manually, a labor-intensive process for everyone. Snijpunt is currently exploring options for the mechanical processing of these products.

"With, as you would expect from us, all eyes on quality, productivity, food safety, and shelf life. We buy fresh products directly from the grower and then process them in our modern, innovative production facility. The grower supplies the products in the best possible way for our cutting process, which also makes the pricing interesting."

Inventory of needs
"We would like to use the upcoming period to identify what needs our customers have in terms of this new product to create the optimal production process. After that, we can start processing orders. However, you can already request a price indication and a sample now," states van der Salm.
