UK: Border Force strikes could extend to Dover and other ports

It seems that Border Force strikes over pay and conditions could be extended to UK ports, including Dover, within weeks. After eight days of industrial action focused around airports, the Public and Commercial Services Union (PCS Union) has recently discussed the possibility of targeting major ports of entry in southeast England.

Industry experts have already warned that a strike among members at Dover could bring freight services in and out of the UK to a standstill. The actions might come as the government refuses to budge to boost public sector pay for 2022/2023 amid action among ambulance drivers, nurses, and rail workers.

The PCS union insists that “all options are open” after receiving a mandate for industrial action from 100,000 members in 124 government departments and other bodies. So far, 6,000 have taken action.
