Still deals to be found on peaches, nectarines, grapes, zucchini, plums, cantaloupes and more

Despite the record heat on the West Coast and other areas of the country this week, Fall is quickly approaching. Pumpkins, hard squash, cabbage, new crop apples and pears, and apple cider offered Fall flavors, while floral arrangements lent an Autumn flair to store aisles. There were still deals to be found on summer favorites such as peaches, nectarines, grapes, zucchini, plums, cantaloupes, yellow squash, and watermelons.

Total ad numbers this week were 273,575, a 4% decrease from last week's 285,576. The total for the same week last year was 17% higher than for this year. The total number of ads broken out by commodity groups: fruit 156,383 (57% of all ads), onions and potatoes 14,694 (5%), vegetables 98,686 (36%), herbs 593, ornamentals 1,969, and hemp 1,250. The number of ads for organic produce was 49,434, 18% of total ads. The following are the prices of major advertised items (3,000 plus ads) this week, compared to the same week last year. Significant increases in price for fruit this week included avocados at 28%, Bartlett pears at 26%, plums at 24%, yellow peaches at 23%, tangerines at 17%, organic seedless grapes (red at 17%, white at 14%), blackberries at 16%, mangos at 15%, yellow nectarines at 14%, and raspberries at 12%.

Significant decreases included only Honeycrisp apples at 11%. There were no significant changes in the price for onions and potatoes this week. There were no significant increases nor decreases in the price of vegetables this week. For more detailed information on organic ads.
