Last week in the Netherlands, the Syngenta tomato and bell pepper team held an event for growers, influencers, and plant breeders. Erben Wennemars was one of the main speakers.
This farmer's son shared his skating adventures and his love of this sport. The layer of water on his folks' meadow would barely be frozen, but Erben would be tying his skates. Ice skating became his passion.
When Erben saw images of the Olympics, his father would say competing in the games is like a day's hard work on the farm. That Erben could do, so skating should be no problem, either. That willingness and his love for the sport brought Erben to great skating heights.

After his presentation, Marcel Prins, Global Head of Germplasm Development at Syngenta, took the floor. We will report on that later this week.

Syngenta presented several bell pepper and tomato varieties, of which a few stood out.
Bell peppers
Yelsto is Syngenta's new premium yellow bell pepper variety. It is productive, inner-rot resistance, and easy to harvest, the breeders say. Plus, these bell pepper fruits have a stable weight and excellent shelf life.
Botiful is Syngenta's latest green bell pepper variety. "Its stable fruit weight, regular setting, high production, and excellent fruit quality make this a reliable variety."
Tomatoes
Cibello falls into the TOV segment. "This high-yielding variety has an excellent shelf life and an exceptionally fruity sweet flavor. It's also a generative, strong crop type that always sets easily," the breeders say.
