At VBT - the Belgian Horticulture Cooperatives Association - auctions, most greenhouse vegetables' average prices increased last week. Eggplants' kilo prices climbed significantly, and cucumber prices rose, too. There was also upward movement in tomatoes' median price. Bell pepper prices were, however, disappointing in week 35, with only the green variety getting a slightly higher average price.
In week 35, eggplant kilo prices reached more than €2.16. A week earlier, that was still €1.28+. This vegetable's price has been on the rise for several weeks, also at Spanish auctions.
Belgian loose tomatoes sold for over €0.68/kg last week, with TOVs narrowly missing the €0.60 mark. Tomato prices have recently been below average. With week 35's increase, that price climbed to just above the five-year average.
Cucumber prices were already above that average, and, as in previous years, that price rose last week. That means, for 2022, week 35's average cucumber price was €0.67 apiece.
Soft fruit average prices also increased substantially in Belgium. Across the board, prices were up by almost two euros. With just under €6/kg, Elsanta strawberries got the best price. Contrary to rising strawberry prices, raspberry prices fell and have still not topped those of strawberries.
