Marco Bergman, Harvest House:

"This Dutch bell pepper season has been full of ups and downs, supply and sales-wise"

To date, the Dutch bell peppers season has been one of ups and downs, supply and sales-wise, says Marco Bergman of Harvest House. "We've seen it all: from moderate to excellent pricing, from limited availability to (too) many bell peppers, and everything in between. So far, it's been a difficult season. Our growers and we have a lot of trouble keeping the quality at a good, respectable level. The limited availability of crop protection products created an especially significant issue keeping the plants going."

"Price-wise, it also wasn't the best season for bell peppers. Costs like energy have skyrocketed, yet, the commercial sales results haven't been anything special. There are still about ten weeks of production to go until the Dutch season ends, so things could still go either way. We're anxious to see how the availability of both Dutch and Spanish bell peppers will affect pricing. Both countries still face plenty of challenges and uncertainty," Marco concludes.
