Following Miele F1, the seed company Fenix based in Catania shows a new proposal belonging to the mini plum typology for the winter transplants in greenhouses, which is suitable both to being harvested on the vine and loose. This new hybrid of tomato respects the high-quality standards in terms of taste, color and elegance. The name is Duci and it has been very appreciated by the farmers who had the possibility to test it already.
Duci F1 features a dark-green and medium-high vigor plant, it is well-balanced, very generative, and suitable with the long cycles of cultivation.
The results detected on the field proved a good tolerance to the cold, and high-yield during the previous seasons, including the last one, which was characterized by low temperatures and light almost for 2 months. That was the proper benchmark to test the behavior of this new hybrid under such tough conditions. The excellent performance made the growers keen to adopt it again for the next season on large scale.
The fruits of Duci F1 feature an oval shape and strong rachis, they are set orderly on an elegant fishbone-shaped vine with a weight-range between 16 and 23 grams, depending on the growing conditions and the salinity of water and soil.
The glossy and shiny color of the berries is deep red, which is maintained for the entire cycle of cultivation and the °Brix is among the highest with an excellent balance between acid and sugar parts also with low conductivity (low salinity waters). Lastly, it is tolerant to the cracking of fruits and it is resistant to the TYLCV and nematodes, showing nice tolerance to some of the newest Tobamovirus .
Advertising campaign
"If it is Duci (sweet), it is our mini plum". It is the main theme of the advertisement campaign Fenix realized to present the new tomato.
Duci comes from the Sicilian dialect and it states for sweet: this message is a remark and a link to Miele, the mini plum tomato characterized by the sweet taste that collected successful results among the farmers, dealers and distributors thanks to the high-quality of the fruits.
The introduction of Duci is a remark of the continuity of research to get increasingly superior features, but it shows a slightly different shape of the fruits and high yield.
