The price of a hectare for greenhouse crops in Almeria increased by 5% in 2021

The price of land for greenhouse crops in Almeria has increased, just like all other production costs. According to the provisional data referring to 2021 that was presented this month by the Ministry of Agriculture in the Annual Survey of Land Prices, the hectare of area for irrigated greenhouse vegetables has increased in Almeria by 5%, from 236,251 euros on average in 2020 to 247,783 euro in the last year, (i.e., +11,532 euro). Even though this variation is lower than the one recorded in 2020 over 2019 (+8.7% and about 18,993 euros), the difference compared to the previous years continues to grow. Thus, the land for greenhouses last year cost 35.7% more than in 2016, only 5 years before.

In Granada, however, the area for irrigated vegetable greenhouses increased even more, by 11%, with the most frequent price set at 253,035 euro/ha.

Land for greenhouses was not the only land to increase its value in Almeria. The area destined for irrigated citrus has increased by 5% compared to 2020, and its most frequent value stood at 49,293 euro/ha. The area used for irrigated outdoor vegetables increased by 3% up to 40,601 euros per hectare.

Decrease in the price of land for nuts
In contrast, there are lands that depreciated. To a greater extent, the price of the land dedicated to irrigated nut trees decreased. According to data from last year, their most frequent price in Almeria stood at 28,349 euro per hectare, i.e., 8% less than in the previous year. The value of the land used for rainfed nut crops fell by 1%, and its most frequent price stood at 6,799 euros.
