The vertical farming company, Fischer Farms, has welcomed a new sales director to the team as its approach to sustainable and responsible food production attracts strong commercial interest.
As Fischer Farms prepares to launch the world's largest vertical farm later this year, Jon Cummings has joined the business, bringing over 20 years of experience in the FMCG industry with him.
Jon, who has previously held senior commercial positions with the likes of Asda, Morrisons, Kerry Foods, and Glenhaven Foods, will support Fischer Farms as they scale up their operations to bring 6.5 tonnes of leaf salads and herbs to UK supermarkets every day.
In his new position, Jon will play a key role in safeguarding the UK's food security by reducing our reliance on imports and working closely with manufacturers, retailers, and distributors to bring the highest quality, home-grown fresh produce to consumers.
Jon said: "Having worked in food production for over 20 years, it is incredibly exciting to be working at the forefront of this pioneering sector. Vertical farming offers immense promise for some of the most complex challenges currently facing the food supply chain. As the import model becomes increasingly unstable, we must embrace agritech and let it drive a revolution in British-grown produce.
"Fischer Farms is leading the way in sustainable food production, and when the new farm is up and running later this year, we will have the capacity to provide 72,000 bags of leaf salad, leafy herbs, and other fresh produce to UK retailers every day, all year round. Our financial backing, and strong retailer interest, demonstrate the potential that vertical farming provides, and I look forward to being a part of this trailblazing movement."
