The need for fresh and safe food increases every day. For cities worldwide, this is a key challenge. Intensive, integrated urban farming systems are an opportunity to address this need in a sustainable, innovative and effective way, an important step to complement all urban farming initiatives.
Cool Water Aquaponics was found in April 2020 in Hawaii. The farm grows fresh and tasty produce locally for cities using an aquaponic system that is sustainable, highly productive, and pesticide-free. They are breeding nine varieties of lettuce, watercress, mint, cucumbers, parsley, cilantro, green onions, kale swiss, chard, and tomatoes. The products are available in retail locations where they sell individual bags. But they mostly sell to hotels and restaurants.
