Luke Gibson - Perfection Fresh

“Demand in our key Asian markets is steady with the relaxation of local restrictions"

Australian fresh produce company Perfection Fresh will be exhibiting again this year at Hort Connections in Brisbane, 6th – 8th June. The company has a wide variety of products, from greenhouse tomatoes and cucumbers to grapes and berries, with growing locations throughout the country.

At the moment, from an export perspective, Broccolini, Cauli-blossom Fioretto, Petite & grape tomatoes, and Qukes are in season with the grape season coming to an end and the citrus season just about to start.

“Our Controlled Environment products like Petite & grape tomatoes and Qukes, are all high quality and in premium condition. Some of the field-grown produce like Broccolini and table grapes have had challenges due to the east coast rainfall and weather conditions. Labor costs, driven by a tight labor market and other cost pressures, continue to influence the produce landscape,” said Luke Gibson, Head of Marketing at the company.

Air freight capacity out of Australia is improving, but the cost is increasing, especially with the government IFAM subsidy coming to an end in June. For sea freight, there are capacity and delay issues with containers, due to reprioritization for other larger markets. The ongoing lockdown in Shanghai is compounding issues, and prices on shipping containers are still at an historical high.

“Demand in our key Asian markets is steady with the relaxation of local restrictions. However, mainland China remains a significant challenge with many supermarkets still closed.”

At Hort Connections, Perfection Fresh will be promoting their CEA portfolio, including tomatoes, Mix-a-Mato, Kumato, Qukes, raspberries, strawberries, and blueberries, along with Calypso mangoes, Broccolini, Cauli-blossom Fioretto, Red Tip Ecoganic bananas, Little Gem snacking bananas, Sun World Grapes and the One Pan Fresh Meal Kit offer.
