Biological pest control is carried out on more than 26,000 hectares in Almeria

The Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries, and Sustainable Development, Carmen Crespo, visited the facilities of the Agrobío company in Mojonera (Almería). "This large company demonstrates once again that Almeria's agriculture goes beyond producing fruit and vegetable products. It's also about innovation that brings sustainability to the sector, flavor to food while preventing pests."

"Agrobío is an example of commitment to permanent innovation, which is an important part of our agriculture that we must show to everyone," said Crespo. The staff of this company includes numerous scientists who are studying how to improve the agricultural sector and its products, she added.

During the tour, Crespo was accompanied by the managing director of Agrobío, Jose Antonio Santorroman, and the mayor of La Mojonera, Jose Miguel Hernandez, among other people, with whom she spoke about the commitment that professionals in the Andalusian field in general, and Almeria in particular, have towards the sustainability of an activity that is fundamental for the economy of the Autonomous Community.

"Agriculture is compatible with respect for the environment," she said.

The province of Almeria has about 13,000 hectares of crops where integrated production techniques are applied, and biological pest control is carried out on more than 26,000 hectares. Regarding organic production, it should be noted that Almeria is currently the Andalusian territory with the largest number of operators (about 4,900 professionals) and that this province has tripled the surface under plastic devoted to organic production in the last decade.

"We need to continue innovating to find solutions to the current challenges of the agricultural sector," said Carmen Crespo. She also highlighted that Agrobío has been a pioneer in Spain in the production of pollinating bumblebees that offer farmers the most respectful way to boost the profitability of their agricultural farms by allowing nature to follow its own course.

Agrobío is a European leader in the production of auxiliary fauna for pest control, and its commitment to sustainability is also reflected in the search for zero residue and natural balance.
