"Mexico is a world leader in protected agriculture"

'With an area of over 25.000 HA México should definitely be considered a world leader in protected agriculture. They are steadily found in the top 10 of the world and won’t easily give up this place," the BVB team explains.

According to them, Mexicans dare to invest in greenhouses, macro tunnels and shade houses to produce a homogenous production of high quality plants, with high yields. Did you know that México exports over 1.000.000.000 KG of vegetables per year? That’s a lot of zeros.

These investments are not only good for the agriculturalists and the consumers, but also for the environment. Through sophisticated technology such as robots, sensing and gene editing the production yield can be secured while reducing the resources such as water, fertilizers and chemicals.

"Even COVID and the war in Ukraine can’t thwart México on its quest to perfection. Yes, the cost of raw materials, transport and labor is having an impact, but in our industries (Horticulture, Soft Fruits and Mushrooms) we see that Mexicans keep investing in quality products and don’t back off," they point out.

At the end of the day, people want to be surrounded by plants, especially working from home, and fruits & veggies are more attractive than ever in the search for healthy food.

"We are happy to have our office in Mexico and are also here to stay!"
