One of the dedicated and innovative farmers of Stadternte Wien is Martin Flicker (r) in Vienna-Donaustadt, where the Vienna vegetable season kick-off took place a few days ago. Gartenbau Flicker Ltd is the largest domestic and regional producer of mini cucumbers in the eastern region. Here, mini cucumbers, the even smaller snack cucumbers, and other cucumber specialties are produced for LGV-Sonnengemüse in Vienna on a total of 42,000 m2 of greenhouse space.
Martin Flicker has also been growing snack cucumbers since 2013. This is even smaller than a mini cucumber and highly suitable for in-between consumption.
"The highest technological standards and the latest technology ensure energy-efficient and ecologically compatible year-round vegetable production. In recent years, the mini cucumber product has earned a permanent place in food retailing, and regional, domestic production is replacing imports from southern European countries with long transport routes," says farm manager Flicker, who is also vice president of the Vienna Chamber of Agriculture.
