The Dutch Junior Water Prize 2022 was won on Friday 8 April by three talented schoolchildren for their research 'The green gold vs. salt', an investigation into the possibility of selectively removing sodium from greenhouse water by means of algae. The three winners, Meinke van Oenen, Nynke Bats and Pjotr de Haan, looked for a way to remove sodium from greenhouse water.
The winners compared three types of algae and looked at the extent to which sodium can be removed. The conclusion: Chlorella algae work best and beat salt.
