Last year, Coöperatie Hoogstraten brought the first strawberries of the season to Antwerp, Belgium, without the 'Ghesellen', and neither did they get to meet the governor due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
This year, things have improved. Last week, the Hoogstraten Strawberries 'Ghesellen' gave Cathy Berx, Governor of Antwerp, the first of these soft fruits.
She and the Antwerp deputation - Luk Lemmens, Kathleen Helsen, Jan De Haes, Mireille Colson, and Maarten Puls, the new provincial clerk - received the Ghesellen at the Provincial House in Antwerp.
Hoogstraten is pleased that this tradition has been restored. And that the governor enjoyed the strawberries.
