Bart Jongenelen of Delphy reports from a research site for soft fruits in Horst (The Netherlands). Delphy's International Soft Fruit Centre acts as an incubator for knowledge and innovation in soft fruit and as the 'living room' of the international soft fruit sector. "Research and practice are not separate worlds here," emphasizes Bart. On a global scale, they bring together knowledge development and knowledge dissemination.
Within 100m on one day
Speaking of that dissemination... A new event is scheduled for the 9th of June. National and international visitors will be welcomed at the Delphy ISFC Field Day. On this day, three seminars take place. Besides, there are tours in the greenhouse and the outdoor fields. Bart: "Within a radius of 100 people, the visitors will learn a lot in just one day. We offer them a nice knowledge program in the mid and high-tech cultivation of soft fruits. The crops that will be looked at and discussed are strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries. We offer visitors a complete program on these crops. This last point is important to us; we offer depth."
Concepts
Bart and his colleagues conduct a multitude of trials on different topics. These range from resilient cultivation and growing new varieties to the implementation of new techniques and LED cultivation strategies. Bart indicates that the strength of the ISFC is mainly in concept thinking which results in concept research.
