Experimenting in the field to grow on the market

Il Vigneto d'oro by Ciriacono Loris is located a few kilometers from Mazzarrone, Sicily.

It was here that in the early 1980s the first greenhouse table grape crops were set up. The success of this experiment contributed to the growth of the company, which now covers 25 hectares.

"Il Vigneto d'Oro" was officially established in 2016, but its origins go way back. Its activities started forty years ago, with techniques that were state of the art for that time. Now, harvesting starts already in late May with early white varieties - both seeded and seedless - and black varieties. Then there are the medium-late white and red varieties - both seeded and seedless - whose harvesting continues until early winter.

To pursue crop diversification, "Il Vigneto d' Oro" also grows red and yellow peppers as well as pomegranates for the fresh market.

The annual table grape yields are approximately 3000 tons, then there are 30 tons of bell peppers and 10 tons of pomegranates. The commercialization channels are the big retail chain through local partners and wholesale markets from all over Italy.

"Our company aims at being sustainable and we care about good practices. From the rationalization of natural resources to the mindful use of technical means and integrated cultivation techniques, we are living through a period of change, as the market is more aware of the importance of good food. Just like final consumers, we always think about the healthiness of the food we produce. Producing well and producing healthy means obtaining additional revenue, improving the company's image, and standing out on the market. This virtuous circle generates competitiveness and excellent products. We are aware of the importance of certifying quality, so procedures are underway to obtain the GlobalGAP certification," explains Loris Ciriacono, who runs the company together with his brother Francesco and father Giuseppe.
