With a hundred days to go, 99 participants have already inscribed for the reunion of alumni of the Rijks Hogere Tuinbouw School Utrecht (Higher Horticultural College) on June 18 this year. The course existed from 1948 to 1991 and approximately a thousand horticultural engineers have been graduated in these years. Research has shown that they have delivered between €500 and €600 million in added value for Dutch horticulture. Due to corona, the reunion, which will be held at the brand new location at Anthura in Bleiswijk, the Netherlands, has already been postponed twice. The organizers are very positive about the possibilities this year, also in view of the smooth registration of the participants. They come from the Netherlands and all over the world. Horticultural engineers from Utrecht has flown out to all continents to use their knowledge for production, trading and breeding in horticulture and supply industries.
Extra value
Seeing and speaking again is not the only objective of the reunion, which was held last time in 2012 at the Arendshoeve in Rijsenhout. The organizers are working on a program with six speakers, graduates from Utrecht' and other speakers. In addition to the recent history of Dutch and international horticulture, the focus is also on the future, such as horticulture in space and in inner cities. In addition, the Anthura show greenhouses, with orchids and anthuriums from this world market leader, can be visited.

The Rijks Hogere Tuinbouwschool started in 1948 in Utrecht. Deliberately outside horticultural areas, in order to be attractive to target groups other than youngsters from only floriculture and horticulture entrepreneurs. After 1991, the program merged with various HBO institutions in Dordrecht and Delft, the unique character of the 'broad, general, extensive and not highly specialized training’ also changed.
Graduates have delivered their added value in many branches of horticulture throughout the Netherlands and beyond. From directors of horticultural auctions to those of for instance Keukenhof and from researchers to entrepreneurs in all links of the horticultural chain.
