The area around Schiphol Airport is a location that is vulnerable to wind. For this reason, Schenkeveld chose the SiloDome basin cover from Albers Alligator. Martin Spekle: "After the introduction of the SiloDome and the experience we had gained in other projects, we decided to place SiloDomes at this location. By the end of 2020, 6 SiloDomes in various sizes were delivered and installed. And at the end of 2021, we were allowed to deliver and assemble another 4 SiloDomes. For the Schenkeveld Schipluiden location, we have now also been commissioned to deliver 2 SiloDomes with a diameter of 11.83 and a height of 4.64 meters."
Albers Alligator has developed the Alligator SiloDome and BUWADome together with Buwatec.
Construction of the SiloDome
The SiloDome is a cover for water silos up to and including a diameter of 15 meters, constructed from a lightweight aluminum frame with a closed fabric reinforced cloth over it. The aluminum frame makes it light and easy to mount on the silo edge of both new and existing water silos. The beams of the SiloDome are mounted on special brackets that are placed over the silo edge. In the middle, the frame is supported by an aluminum pole. At the bottom, the cover is provided with an open hem through which a curved tube is slid. By means of ratchets with polyester straps, the cover is tightened.
