Gruppo Libretti converts 20 hectares to organic cultivation techniques

"Combining tradition and innovation is the key to success, especially in this day and age with ever-demanding markets," explains Giuseppe Libretti, CEO of the Sicilian growing company Gruppo Libretti.

Giuseppe Libretti

The company has converted 20 hectares to organic cultivation techniques. The new line consists of popular products such as tomatoes (from plum tomatoes to salad ones), bell peppers, eggplants, zucchini, cucumbers, etc. The converted area is poised to grow as the market demand increases.

No chemical products
"Organic produce is obtained without using pesticides or other chemical products, as residues can be potentially harmful to our organism. Our protocols include natural control techniques only. On top of that, when it comes to fertilization, we solely employ natural solutions to achieve a sustainable model. This is because we want to maintain the ecosystem unaltered and renew resources while guaranteeing genuine high-quality products."

Strictly controlled chain
"The organic chain is strictly controlled. Our crops are periodically subjected to inspections that verify traceability, authorizations, processing, and storage conditions. These also include chemical analyses to be sure of the absence of pesticides or other elements not included in certified protocols. This is our commitment to guarantee the maximum transparency and ensure a better future for the next generations."

ToBRFV
"Unfortunately, this season was marked by the ToBRFV virus, which reduced yields. However, we will have to live with this problem and react with better produce sorting. Prices have been rather high so far and we were not much affected by foreign competition. Organic produce continues to do well all over Europe, but Italy remains our main market (80%). Abroad, our products are available in Switzerland, Austria, Poland and other countries which require high-quality."

Nickel Free range
A few months ago, Libretti introduced the Nickel Free range to meet the needs of those consumers that are allergic to this heavy metal and who could not eat some products up until now. "We felt the strong urge to start with these productions not to leave anyone behind."

"We are able to meet the most diverse needs of the big retail chains with packaging solutions in line with the most advanced standards and that meet European regulations. The most popular formats are 250, 300, and 500 grams and loose in 30x40 cm crates."
