According to Fresh Hema, Huaixiang Agriculture, the largest organic vegetable production base in Beijing, has settled in Machangying Town, Pinggu District, where the first organic seedling cultivation base in China is under construction. 70% of the organic vegetables grown there will be sold to local Fresh Hema supermarkets, including 17 kinds of cabbage, rape, and spinach.
According to Wang Guozhu, the purchasing manager of Fresh Hema Beijing, the number of users buying organic vegetables at Fresh Hema has grown about 5 times bigger in the last 5 years, despite the organic vegetable market still being in the cultivation period.
Through the targeted planting model, the organic vegetable production base will be able to produce intensively, thus greatly reducing costs. Previously, the price of some organic crops was 6 times or even 10 times that of non-organic vegetables, but now the price of organic vegetables in Fresh Hema Beijing store has dropped to 1.5 to 2 times the cost of non-organic vegetables.
