Henan, the main producing area of peppers, saw heavy rainfall in June, the early transplanting stage, which resulted in the seedlings in low-lying areas being drowned. Then, when July brought downpours once again, the pepper production lands were flooded. The peppers were badly damaged and, on top of that, August brought more rain, harming the peppers even more. About 40-50% of the pepper plots have been afflicted by the rainwater. The plants have been damaged to varying degrees, causing a significant reduction in production.
The overall growth of peppers not affected by the floods is relatively normal. Due to sufficient rain, the pepper plants are relatively vigorous, the threat of diseases is not a serious one, and the fruit-bearing rate is high. Although there are also a few plots with low fruit-bearing rates and serious diseases, they account only for a small part of the peppers that were not affected by floods, making the yield of what was not destroyed relatively successful.
In previous years, the main factors that caused local pepper production to reduce were pests, diseases, and continuous cropping, but these factors can be ignored this year.
