After a period of uncertainty the decision was finally taken: Seed meets Technology 2021 will not be cancelled or postponed. Following close consultation between the organisation and the municipality, Seed meets Technology has been deemed COVID-proof and guests will be permitted to attend this event at Vertify in Zwaagdijk-Oost, The Netherlands.
Previous editions of Seed meets Technology
This year’s edition will take place from Tuesday 28 to Thursday 30 September. Just as in previous years, the event will include a trade fair with seed-related machinery, a program of lectures and demonstration plots. The demonstration plots, featuring new varieties of Sakata and Takii Europe, have since been fully planted. Work on these plots started in May, with the sowing and planting of the relevant crops. More than 200 new varieties will be shown, including headed cabbage, red cabbage, broccoli, courgette, pumpkin and Swiss chard. Apart from these, Gautier Semences (lettuce) and Wing Seed (cabbage) are also on exhibition on the demo plot.
Symposia
This year, the organisation will hold various symposia on the topics of ‘sensors’ and ‘biostimulants’. The symposium on sensors will discuss how sensors can help growers of specific crops cut back on their consumption of nitrogen and water. The symposium on biostimulants will examine the relevant laws and regulations and the results of the Bio4safe Interreg project. In the UK, Belgium, France and the Netherlands, studies have been set up over the past four years investigating the effect of biostimulants on vegetable, fruit and floriculture crops. The results will be presented during the symposium. Furthermore, the symposium will zoom in on the applicable laws and regulations and how they are dealt with by the crop protection trade for the seed world.
Participant presentations
Several participants will be giving presentations on topics such as sustainable seed treatments (Incotec), automation of seed quality tests (Phenokey), monitoring the quality of pollen (Amphasys) and the advantages associated with taking crop and soil samples (Eurofins). In addition to these lectures, other meetings will be organised through the programme on the website. In short, the event is worth visiting for everyone active in the world of seeds.
