Russia: Chelyabinsk region increases greenhouse vegetable production by 30%.

Greenhouse vegetable growers of the Chelyabinsk region, close to the Kazakh border, have increased their greenhouse vegetable production by 34% thanks to modern technologies and reaching full capacity. The regional Minister of Agriculture, Mr. Aleksey Kobylin has reported on the fact.

“This region has produced 18.8 thousand tons of greenhouse vegetables, which is 34% more than the crops collected in the same period of last year. Greenhouse vegetable production has reached 19.6 thousand tons, which is 37% than the result of last year”, the Minister mentioned.

According to Mr. Kobylin, this growth is related to the fact that the greenhouse complex Ural in Ust-Katayev launched in 2018 has reached full production capacity. The agricultural park, a leader of the region, has grown over 8 thousand tons of cucumbers since the beginning of the year. Their productivity amounted to 59 kilos per square meter for cucumbers and 19 kilos per square meter for tomatoes. Last year the overall result for the same period constituted 8.5 kilo per square meter.

According to the Ministry, the average productivity in the middle of the year in the production units of Chelyabinsk region amounted to 37.3 kilo per square meter, while a year ago it was 24.5 kilos per square meter. In 2020 40.3 thousand tons of greenhouse vegetables were produced, 68% more in comparison with 2019.
