Greenhouse production is one of the most dynamically developing segments of agriculture in Russia. In June, 669 thousand tons of vegetables and greenery have been grown in winter greenhouses, which is 9.1% more compared to the same period of 2020 (613 thousand tons respectively). With that the share of cucumber crops comprises 423.3 thousand tons (+3.1%), as for tomatoes, 235,8 thousand tons (+22.6%) have been yielded.
Lipetsk, Moscow, Volgograd, Kaluga, Novosibirsk, Krasnodar, and Stavropol regions are among the ten leading production areas, together with the Karachaevo-Cherkessia republics, Tatarstan and Bashkortostan.
Greenhouse production has been rapidly increasing within the past years; last year the growers yielded the record-setting 1.37 million tons of produce. The Ministry of Agriculture is expecting the positive dynamics to retain; according to the forecast, the overall crops should exceed 1.4 million tons.
