It was a good year for strawberries grown in Romagna, at least according to the largest producer in the Cesena area (Forlì-Cesena). Antonio Benzi counts more than 600,000 plants and took stock of the campaign that has just ended.
"Apart from last week, when the weather conditions affected the quality, the campaign has gone well. As expected, the drop in production was 10-15% due to the April frosts, but we can't complain.

On the whole, market prices have not reached peaks, but have always been above the cost of production, also bearing in mind the higher costs due to rising raw material prices.
"We had a very good business collaboration with Sweden, with three successful weeks of intense work. The strawberry variety Sibilla, which is uniform, with an excellent shelf life and excellent flavor and texture, has been much appreciated in northern Europe," said Mirco Zoffoli, who works closely with Benzi in the sales department.
Austria and Switzerland were the other two countries where Sibilla strawberries were sold, in addition to the Italian market. "The month of May saw a good outlook on the quality of the crops. Customers are looking for uniformity, so I decided to grow a single variety. At the moment, the results are very satisfactory," concluded Benzi.
