Turkish woman entrepreneur reaches 70 tons of strawberries per year in hydroponic greenhouse

Alime Cekirdek, a mother of four, was awarded the female micro-entrepreneur of the year in Sinop. Ms. Cekirdek increased the strawberry production they started with her husband to an area of 3,000 square meters in 5 years and managed to reach 70 tons in production annually.

Living in the village of Mertoglu, Alime Cekirdek decided to produce strawberries with her husband Umit Cekirdek in 2016.

Alime: "We used to grow vegetables for a while, but because the profits were low, we turned to strawberry production. We started to produce strawberries in a hydroponic system in our greenhouse. We decided to expand our greenhouses because the yield was good and the demand was high. But when we increased our greenhouse to one acre, we still had difficulties in meeting the demand. Now we produce strawberries in an area of 3 thousand square meters. We do not have any problems in marketing the products. Families come here with their children to purchase strawberries.

I am proud to receive the female micro-entrepreneur of the year award. We created our greenhouses by working tirelessly. As women, we must be present in every industry. We must fight relentlessly and tirelessly. My advice to all women is to trust themselves. My next goal is to further enlarge our strawberry production areas."
