In the last decades, Israel has become one of the frontrunners on greenhouse technologies. It is not surprising that such innovative solutions arise precisely here: for a long time, the Israelis had to be self-sufficient, stimulating them to be innovative when it comes to growing crops on their poor desert soils with just a little human power. The outcome of this innovative mindset is clear today: Israeli horticulture companies develop the most advanced irrigation techniques, climate control systems, and robotic systems for greenhouses.
Today, the Dutch horticulture ecosystem is increasingly resembling that of Israel. For example, Dutch growers are more frequently confronted with drought and water scarcity due to global climate change. In addition, the huge global demand for Dutch crops regularly leads to labor shortages. Therefore, Israeli greenhouse technologies become more and more interesting for the whole Dutch horticulture ecosystem. Finally, well-established Dutch greenhouse integrators operating internationally could also benefit from integrating Israeli technologies in order to optimize their turnkey projects. In other words, it is about time for Dutch and Israeli horticulturists to exchange knowledge and explore business opportunities.
