Online event about digital transformation in horticulture

"You have to use data to go from process management to insights"

The fact that digital events can work was demonstrated on 20 May during 'Keys to successful digital transformation in horticulture'. Almost 300 interested people from various countries saw how horticultural organizations shape their digital transformation and how they benefit from it.

During the event, three guest speakers from the horticultural sector shared their vision on digital transformation and the pitfalls you may encounter. Jacco Kuipers, CFO at Ball Horticultural Company, said that 'you have to use data to go from process management to insights'. Peter Verstegen, ICT Manager at Rijk Zwaan, added: 'passionate people ensure successful digital transformation.

Subsequently, Ernst Barendregt, CFO at Royal van Zanten, explained that with their 'step by step' approach, they want to keep the transformation simple. The speakers each spent ten minutes presenting their vision, after which they discussed three statements. The host of the event, Irene Hartkamp, moderated the sessions and ensured interaction with the viewers.

The conclusion of the event was summed up by William van Loenen, product manager at Mprise Agriware: 'The whole session came down to people and processes. These three points stood out:

  1. Digital transition is not a goal in itself, it is about what you do with it.
  2. The vision comes from management, but the change must come from operations.
  3. Digital transformation is a continuous process. Think big, but start small. So why not start tomorrow?'
