A peek inside the factory of Van der Valk Horti Systems

"It all started with an aluminum locking pin"

It all started in 1963 with the idea for an original aluminum locking pin and is now a specialized company that is completely dedicated to the development and production of vent opening and screen systems for greenhouses all over the world. The company in question is Van der Valk Horti Systems and HortiDaily got the opportunity to take a look around at their factory in Monster, the Netherlands, to get a closer look at their processes and products they are known for.

Jack Vijverberg, Sales Office Manager at Van der Valk Horti Systems

Innovative, simple and safe
Innovation is a key aspect for Van der Valk and they work together with greenhouse builders and screen installers to provide innovative systems with distinctive benefits for growers of all kind of crops all over the world. On top of efficiency of the product itself, it is important for the company to develop products that make things as uncomplicated and safe as possible for the greenhouse builders. All products are made at their factory in Monster, with machines that are especially made for the company. Their product range grows constantly and they are a familiar name in the greenhouse industry for many years. “In fact, we are the only specialized company that is completely dedicated to the development and production of develops and produces ventilation mechanisms and screen systems. Due to their modern machinery, made especially for their company, they are able to efficiently produce large stocks in a quick and reliable manner.

Part of the factory

A peek into the factory
At their facility in Monster, they produce all their products which are supplied to different greenhouse builders and screen installers, who in turn, use them for their projects all over the world. One can find all products related to vent-opening and screen systems in this hall, and during the tour that FloralDaily received from Vijverberg, he showed us how the many different products are being produced. It will be too much to present all products, but with the pictures below, we will try to give you good impression of how the products of Van der Valk Horti Systems are made.

In the picture above, we see the ValkPlus push rods for the vent-opening system. “Our StabiMax vent-opening system works best in combination with the ValkPlus push rods, which is made to fit the grower’s conditions exactly in an automated production process.”

With their machines at the facility, they are able to customize the product to the client's particular needs. “In the case of the ValkPlus push rod, for example, the lips are bent with the greatest precision to exactly the angle needed for the vent-opening mechanism and a unique article code speeds up mounting and makes reordering easier. Additionally, condensation holes prevent accumulation of moisture and frost damage.”

With this machine, profiles are being cut

Employees are making small adjustments to the parts

Everywhere you look, you see parts or products that are ready to be shipped to the greenhouse builders and/or screen installers

To save space, they use these kind of platforms

Safety first. These tubes are ready to be shipped out, but for now are secured on all sides.

Some profiles need to be wrapped with plastic to prevent dirt from getting in. “Often, when large products are delivered at a greenhouse facility, they will lay outside the greenhouse before they will be installed. In turn, dirt can get into the profiles, damaging the screens. For this reason, we decided to wrap it carefully.”

About 9 years ago, Van der Valk introduced their universal screen securing system, ValkScreenVision. It is suitable for every screen type of screen cloth and saves time when inserting or replacing screen cloths. On top of that, it is less risky for both crop and installer. And as the screen cloth is inserted directly into the profile, there is no need to use clips. As a result hardly any work is required amongst the crop nor at great heights. The rapid installation is thanks to prefab plastic strips which are stitched onto the screen with the machine pictured above.

Recently, in order to keep up with the demand, they invested in a new machine. This new and improved machine will enable them to increase their production, click here to read the article that we’ve published earlier this month on this machine and the increasing demand for their universal screen securing system worldwide.
