Failed harvests pull the plug on soft fruit grower

On May 4, 2021, Van Elteren Tuinbouw from Hoeven was declared bankrupt. The grower grew strawberries, raspberries and asparagus. The grower wasn't able to recover from two failed harvests since the hot summer of 2018.

The company was sold in December 2020. There are still debts. The appointed curator Mr. E.C.G. van Loon says that work is being done to resolve this. They were already working on a creditors' agreement.

However, one of the creditors has now filed for bankruptcy. Nevertheless, the bankruptcy trustee does not rule out the possibility of reaching a private agreement after all.

The main part of Van Elteren Tuinbouw concerned strawberries. Part of the company was covered (tunnel) cultivation. According to the trustee, the bankruptcy isn't to do with the corona crisis.

The buyer continues the business at the location in Hoeven. It is not known to the editors what cultivation there is there.
