Korean grower uses LED lighting for better cucumber production

The 'Fre-Farm Chungju Greenhouse', recently applied Philips LED horticulture lighting, in a part of their 15 hectares high tech greenhouse located in Chungju, North Chungcheong Province, Korea for their cultivation of cucumbers. Signify Korea provided professional cultivation consulting along with products and advice on applying the right light recipe.

An optimized environment for horticulture growth is established, so that even in winter when there is little sunlight, the yield can be increased and the quality of crops can be improved dramatically. It is expected to contribute to a stable supply of cucumbers to consumers as well as improving farm income by increasing the annual production of cucumbers.

Philips LED horticulture lighting uses LEDs with light efficiency that minimizes the operational cost and saves 40% on electricity bills compared to conventional sodium luminaires for horticulture lighting. "Philips LED horticulture lights help to shorten the growth time by creating an optimal environment and provide sufficient light when there is little sunlight," said Yongnam Kang, Market Leader, Far East. "By providing the necessary brightness, wavelength, and uniformity of lighting, we will be able to supply fresher and more eco-friendly crops.”
