Peak strawberry season arrives on the Central Coast

California strawberry acreage up 5.7% from last year

2021 seems to become a big year for California strawberries. The California Strawberry Commission’s December acreage survey showed a total of 36,487 acres for 2021. California strawberry acreage planted in the fall, and harvested during the traditional winter, spring and summer seasons, was reported at 28,407 acres, up 5.7% from last year.

The strawberry season is in full swing on the Central Coast and local berry stands are selling out quickly. While strawberries are grown throughout the year in California, peak season typically starts in early spring. It can last until fall. ksby.com reports the California Strawberry Commission claiming that 90% of US strawberries are grown in California.
