Japanese agritech startup unveils tomato harvesting robot

"Now is the time to introduce automation technologies to tomato harvesting"

Japanese agritech startup inaho began the development of their tomato harvesting robot in 2020. Four robots have already been manufactured and released; they are currently under operation, collecting feedback from several growers in Japan for further improvements.

“Farms and producers across various countries are suffering from labor shortages as a result of the pandemic of COVID-19. This challenge could lead to food shortages in the coming years; therefore now is the time to introduce automation technologies and to transition away from the existing methods of farming,” said Sohya Ohyama, Co-founder and COO of inaho.

“We believe that our technologies and solutions will contribute to the well-being of all persons in the agricultural industry and lead to the realization of sustainable agriculture in the future. To make this happen, we are seeking partners who can expand on these values together: growers, seed companies, and facility equipment companies in the EU.”
