The growing season at Azienda Agricola Russo in Marina di Acate in Sicily is in full swing. For years, the company has dedicated its efforts to the cultivation of specialities that are valued for their taste.
"The upward trend for crops in our price range is confirmed, as there is a lot of interest from buyers that appreciate high quality. The top crops at the moment are the red and yellow date tomatoes, the mini costoluto ribbed tomato, long tomato, and mini San Marzano. After a slight decline in demand for cherry yellow and orange tomatoes, the demand is now stable," said owner Gioacchino Russo.

Special crops
The secret of its success is the commitment to tapping into a high price range and delivering a high quality crop that meets the demands.
"Although we are a small company, the search for special crops, niche crops and exceptional taste is a constant. We carry out various tests with the most diverse seed companies, who entrust us with their best products for testing. They appreciate our high level of expertise. It is up to us to decide which varieties to continue with and which not. The best and most careful selection leads us to have only the highest quality crops," said Russo.

Soil-grown
"We are lucky to work on uncontaminated and very fertile soil. The proximity of the sea allows us to cultivate under the best conditions in the greenhouse. Every crop tastes good but we strive for excellence and that is why our activity in the field of variety and technological innovation is almost frenetic. We always prioritize the consumer and nature. We also make our contribution to the environment, thanks to special tools that help us save water resources."
Russo's crops are purchased by the best retailers in Italy, overriding the more traditional channels that sell commodities.

"Our products don't undergo the most common commercial dynamics, because their value is directly proportional to their quality," he continues. "This allows us to continue to both invest in innovation and optimize our efforts."
The pursuit of fine taste led to the creation of 'I piccoli da gourmet', a careful selection of the company's products, marketed under the 'Dennys', 'Russo Azienda Agricola' and 'Perla d'Oro' brands.
