Not only the bell peppers are growing well at Noorland Paprika, the company itself is also growing fast. Last year, the company expanded with 2.5 ha to cultivate green bell peppers. That expansion also required an adjustment in the cultivation process.
In recent years, the trend with Noorland is to work increasingly effective with natural enemies and organic preparations. This has resulted in reducing the damage done by plagues such as red spider mite and caterpillars, with also a strong reduction of the dependency of more traditional chemical correction agents.
During the period of more organic protection, the grower has noticed they have become more dependent on the spraying mast. For example for caterpillars, which are now combatted with a sprayable bacteria preparation. An additional advantage is these carts enable them to only correct locally.
Bart Jan van Raalte, technical service Noorland Paprika, explains how this solution was found. "We already had a Meto spraying cart, but for the new location, we needed one more. We work with a chain track in the middle path, and a hose is a bit inconvenient, the harvesting cart gets in the way of the spraying cart."
MetoSWT
In the search for a new cart, the grower ended up with the newest spraying cart of Berg Hortimotive, the MetoSWT, a model with a tank and without hose. This keeps the concrete path empty for the harvest carts or other work. "Paul Vijverberg and a colleague of Steenks visited to install and explain it all. In that regard, everything was perfect."
Almost ten
With the expansion, Noorland Paprika is heading towards an acreage of 10 hectare. Before the construction of the new part, the company from IJsselmuidel already had 70,500 m2 of greeenhouse, which is now 94,000 m2. In IJselmuiden, a lot of additional construction is taking place, Bart Jan notices. "It is good to see the area is moving upwards".
