Mr Next Generation Growing

In Memoriam Aat Dijkshoorn

On February 10 Aart Dijkshoorn passed away. The below In Memoriam appeared on Kas als Energiebron. Aat had been seriously ill for a while.

Aat was well known to many in the greenhouse industry. He was an example to everyone at  horticultural branche organisation Glastuinbouw Nederland and within his large network. A very valued colleague, with an eye for the personal side of work.

'Mr Next Generation Growing', the was Aat. At the exact time Het Nieuwe Telen (The Next Generation Growing) when was on the drawing table, he started his work within the Kas als Energiebron (Greenhouse as Energy Source) programme. Since 2008 he has been the driving force behind Het Nieuwe Telen with great enthusiasm, a huge drive and the knowledge of how things are done. Of course he did this together with others, but it was Aat who ensured the knowledge development and knowledge exchange of energy saving took off. Partially due to his efforts and dedication this is now a key part of greenhouse growing. Aat took on this task with heart and soul. Always thinking from the perspective of the receiver - the grower - because his heart was in greenhouse growing.

'Less is more' was his motto. What do the growers need, what gets them moving? And how do I ensure greenhouse cultivation advisors and education pick up the knowledge? He got to know many people and many people got to know him. He saw the human aspect as well as the message. Aat was continually working on this and he laid a strong foundation under the energy transition on its way to a climate neutral greenhouse sector.

We will miss Aat dearly, but the good memories of a great and positive person!

Directors, board and colleagues at Glastuinbouw Nederland,
Programme team Kas als Energiebron
