Red alert at several retail stores:

Germany: "Current weather conditions are presenting us with challenges in some regions"

The chaos caused by the snow that has covered parts of Germany has also left its mark on the food trade. However, the effects were kept within narrow limits, as several retail chains told Deutsche Presse-Agentur in a survey on Tuesday.

Aldi Nord said: "The current weather situation is presenting us with challenges in some regions of our sales area." However, the company was working extremely hard to keep the impact on customers as low as possible, it said. "Even if deliveries had to be postponed or rescheduled at short notice due to the tense situation on the roads, the overall security of supply in our affected stores is nevertheless guaranteed," the company emphasised.

A Rewe spokesman reported that a double-digit number of stores, especially in eastern Germany, could not be supplied temporarily. There, the supply of fresh products such as fruit and vegetables had been reduced in some cases. In principle, however, the supply of goods was secured. Compared to the company's total of around 5,500 stores in Germany, the number of affected branches is low.

Lidl stressed that the supply of goods in the shops was secured. Due to the weather forecasts, the company had been able to prepare for the current situation.
