According to data from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) processed by Hortoinfo, the world's cucumber production in 2019 was record-breaking, with 87,805.09 million kilos cultivated on 2,231,402 hectares.
In terms of volume, China produced 80.05% of the world's total production of cucumbers; however, in terms of yield, the Netherlands ranks first, with 68.38 kg / m². This yield is 586.55% higher than that of Spain, despite the fact that the Spanish cucumber production per square meter is the fourth highest, with 9.96 kg / m².
Germany ranks second, with a yield of 10.87 kg / m², followed by Jordan, with 10.31 kg / m². The world's average yield was 3.93 kg / m².
The world's largest producers
China is the world's largest cucumber producer, with 70,288.13 million kilos. The acreage devoted by China in 2019 to produce cucumbers was 1,256,376 hectares, with a yield of 5.59 kg / m².
The second largest producer in the world is Turkey, with 1,916.64 million kilos of cucumbers produced on 38,486 hectares, with a yield of 4.98 kg / m².
Russia ranks third, with 1,626.36 million kilos, 40,851 hectares and a yield of 3.98 kg / m².
The fourth place is for Ukraine with 1,034.17 million kilos, 52,100 hectares and a yield of 1.98 kg / m².
The fifth place corresponds to Iran, with 871.69 million kilos of cucumbers cultivated on 29,402 hectares that gave an average yield of 2.96 kg / m².
Spain ranks eighth, with a total production of 739.2 million kilos grown on 7,420 hectares, with an average yield of 9.96 kg / m², while the Dutch cucumber production in 2019 reached 410.25 million kilos grown on 600 hectares, with a yield of 68.38 kg / m².
