Fundraiser launched for Trout Creek's Spring Hill Farms after owner passed away

Jessica Milne says the sudden and unexpected death of her uncle has left her aunt struggling with more than she can handle.

Milne decided to step up and help in the greenhouse where her uncle, Wayne Chalmers, made a name for himself producing some of the best vegetables in the area at Spring Hill Farms in Trout Creek, according to the North Bay Farmers’ Market.

Realizing that wasn’t enough, she launched a GoFundMe page to help raise money to pay for extra staff over the next few months.

“Unfortunately, Uncle Wayne did not have life insurance or a will. And although he and Aunt Patti ran the business together, he was listed as sole proprietor. As you can imagine, this makes things all the more difficult,” according to the fundraising page.

“My Uncle Wayne was a huge part of running his farm. He did it day and night, it was literally all he thought about,” Milne told The Nugget Thursday morning.

She said during the winter months the farm would have three staff come in two or three times a week to help.
