Considering the time we are living in, we can say the Christmas period has been rather lively for packed unwashed baby leaves. "We did not register the trend of previous years, but orders did increase slightly. During the Christmas period, prices dropped compared to last year also due to Covid-19, but things are now improving," reports Fabio Altamura, Vice-President of Op Altamura in Pontecagnano Faiano (SA).
"All our markets registered constant demands in line with the consumption of 2020. We have been working with our European clients for a long time and it is precisely thanks to these well-established relationship that we managed to maintain our production stable. At the end of December, there have been some problems with the UK due to the new regulations. Luckily we managed to solve any bureaucratic issues through our export department. However, there were also some logistic problems when it came to the return to our country."
Because of the current drop in temperatures in Italy and the frost in Spain, OP Altamura is expecting problems and delays related to produce availability. "This will drive up demand and prices are already increasing rapidly."
"We are expecting 2021 to be very similar to 2020, with short-term planning. From a strategic point of view, we are working on some new projects and innovations that we will launch over the next few months. As we will not attend fairs, we are working to improve our digital presence."
