Europe gained a new soft fruit specialist on 1 January: Fruitful BV. Robbert Leisink, Maxim De Roeck, and Kevin Smedts are young. But they've all worked in this sector for the last few years. So, together, they have some 20 years of berry experience. "That's our strength. Many companies see the soft fruit range growing. They try to get in on the action, even though it's not their main activity. We, on the other hand, are a dedicated berry specialist. For Fruitful, soft fruit isn't merely a nice side-line; our DNA is based on it."
"Last year was an unusual one for everyone. It was full of surprises, but there were also opportunities. In that special year, we quietly set up a new business specializing in berries. As a young company, our main objective is to create added value for both growers and end clients. We want to add value to continuity and reliability at product level. But in packaging innovation and a competitive price-and-sale approach too. These are the core values we want to offer. We want to combine supply and demand and support for our growers. And we want to supply our clients for 12 months, non-stop," says Maxim.
"We'll serve our clients from our strategic location in Fresh Park Venlo. We're going to focus on the European retail as well as wholesale sectors. We'll be using Berry Packing Services. They have seven state-of-the-art packaging lines at their modern sorting facility. That means we can pack our berries in more than 20 different ways. These options are fully tailored to our end clients' requirements," adds Robbert.
Fruitful will be selling the entire soft fruit assortment. However, blueberries will be its main product. "We have a network in every leading berry-producing country in the world. We have affiliated growers in the Netherlands, Germany, Morocco, Peru, Chile, and South Africa. We're in constant contact with local and foreign farmers. So, we can deliver fresh products every day," says Kevin.
"Our berry sector backgrounds serve us well. Many clients no longer simply want blueberries; they're specifically after the better varieties. That's where we come in. We're currently getting blueberries from Chile. From week 4/5, the first blueberries will arrive from Morocco. Flexibility is another of our strengths. Client service isn't just a department here; it's an attitude. We can act quickly and organize ad hoc business for our clients. We, therefore, hope to build a strong reputation with our growers and clients," concludes Robert.
