“We are pleased to provide fresh food to those who need it"

Marion County economic development grant initiatives completed

Adapt8, makers of greenhouse and agricultural products including Solexx, has completed several projects as part of an economic development grant from Marion County. Marion County awarded Adapt8 $50,000 and Adapt8 contributed more than $264,000 toward the completion of the grant initiatives.

Adapt8 constructed an over 20-foot tall, 2,400-square-foot commercial greenhouse that is home to product testing, research and development, and a community outreach program. The company donated hundreds of hours to grow fresh vegetables, including peppers, tomatillos, zucchini, chard and lettuce that were provided to the Marion County Food Share. Adapt8 will continue to provide harvested food to the food share program.

Adapt8 also used the new greenhouse to teach elementary school children about hydroponics and strong root structure and held a clinic demonstrating cutting propagation with tomato plants. Outreach classes will continue in the test greenhouse as COVID-19 restrictions allow.

Material
The commercial greenhouse is covered with Solexx, Adapt8’s twin-wall greenhouse covering material. Energy Trust of Oregon will provide a rebate to the company for the installation of Solexx due to its energy saving properties.

“We are pleased to provide fresh food to those who need it most and build our relationship with the community through our outreach classes,” said Michelle Moore, president of Adapt8. “This grant program has given us not only the opportunity to further our mission of changing the way the world grows food, but also position our company for the tremendous growth we expect.”

Adapt8 has partnered with GK Machine, a Donald, Oregon, producer of agricultural equipment, manufactured equipment and greenhouse products. GK Machine made the frame for Adapt8’s commercial greenhouse that Adapt8 then covered with Solexx.

Partnership
“We are so excited to bring our Oregon companies together in this partnership. We share long histories of serving the agricultural industry in Oregon and are confident that the solution we bring to greenhouse growers is unparalleled in quality and efficiency,” said Moore.

Adapt8 is looking for a community partner to share space in the test greenhouse. Adapt8 will supply access to water, electricity, natural gas, a LAN connection, and space for a nonprofit partner to grow food.
